Introducing Calm Harbor Psychotherapy
Helping you navigate the storms of life
You are competent, capable, and relied upon by others, yet internally, something feels heavy, complicated, or unsustainable.
Many of my clients are highly responsible, caring, and successful people who have spent years taking care of others while quietly carrying the effects of childhood wounds, attachment injuries, betrayal, loss, or complex trauma.
They are often experiencing:
• Emotional exhaustion or burnout despite outward success
• Relationship patterns shaped by attachment wounds, betrayal, or past trauma
• Persistent anxiety, overthinking, perfectionism, or people-pleasing
• Grief or losses that continue to impact daily life
• A sense that they understand their struggles intellectually, but have not experienced deeper healing
My clients are not looking for quick fixes or surface-level symptom management. They are seeking meaningful, lasting change.
They want to understand themselves with compassion, heal the parts of themselves that learned to survive, and experience greater freedom, connection, and peace.
If you value depth, are motivated for personal growth, and are willing to invest in your emotional well-being, our work together may be a good fit.
Calm Harbor Psychotherapy offers:

My approach
I specialize in the integration of IFS and EMDR, two evidence-based approaches that work together to address not only symptoms, but the underlying experiences that shaped them.
Together, these approaches help clients move beyond simply coping or “managing symptoms” and towards genuine healing.
Rather than asking, "What's wrong with you?" we explore, "What happened to you?" and "How did your mind and body learn to protect you?"
Therapy becomes a collaborative process of understanding and healing the wounded and protective parts of yourself with compassion, curiosity, and respect.
My approach is particularly helpful for individuals navigating:
• Attachment wounds and childhood emotional neglect
• Betrayal trauma and relational injuries
• Anxiety, over-functioning, and burnout
• Complex grief and significant life transitions
• Patterns of self-criticism, perfectionism, and people-pleasing
• The lingering effects of traumatic experiences
Healing is possible. You do not have to continue surviving in ways that no longer serve you.
Providing a safe harbor for healing
Reaching out for help can feel daunting. Many clients arrive unsure or hesitant, and soon discover how powerful a supportive therapeutic relationship can be.
If you’re ready for relief, clarity, and growth, I invite you to take the first step.
It would be my privilege to walk alongside you.
In Person & Telehealth
I offer convenient and professional therapeutic support either in person at my offices in downtown Charleston, West Ashley, or via telehealth.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
Your first session is a chance for us to get to know each other. We'll talk about what's bringing you to therapy, your history, and your goals. There's no pressure to share more than you're comfortable with! The first step is simply building a foundation of trust.
-
Calm Harbor Psychotherapy specializes in three evidence-based approaches: Internal Family Systems (IFS), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). We'll work together to determine which approach (or combination) best fits your needs.
-
IFS is an approach based on the idea that our minds are made up of different "parts", like an inner critic, a protector, or a wounded younger self. Rather than fighting these parts, IFS helps you understand and heal them, restoring a sense of inner calm and self-leadership.
-
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a well-researched therapy for trauma and distressing life experiences. Using guided eye movements or other bilateral stimulation, EMDR helps your brain reprocess painful memories so they lose their emotional charge, allowing you to remember without reliving the event.
-
ACT helps you stop struggling against difficult thoughts and feelings and instead make room for them while taking meaningful action. Through mindfulness and values-based work, ACT teaches you to live a rich, purposeful life even when discomfort shows up.
-
If you're feeling stuck, overwhelmed, weighed down by the past, or simply sensing that something needs to change, therapy can help. You don't need to be in crisis to benefit; many people come to therapy for personal growth, clarity, or support through life transitions.
-
It varies from person to person. Some people find relief in a few months, while others benefit from longer-term work, especially when processing trauma. We'll regularly check in on your progress and adjust our approach so therapy fits your goals and your pace.
-
Most clients start with weekly sessions, which helps build momentum and trust. As you progress, we may shift to biweekly or monthly sessions. We'll find a schedule that works for your life and your goals.
-
Yes! What you share in session is protected by law and professional ethics. There are a few legally required exceptions (such as risk of harm to yourself or others) which we'll review together in your first session so you know exactly what to expect.
-
Yes, we offer secure telehealth sessions for clients who prefer to meet from home, as well as in-person appointments. Many clients find virtual therapy just as effective and appreciate the added convenience.
-
That's more common than you might think, and it doesn't mean therapy can't work for you. Approaches like IFS and EMDR often help in ways that talk therapy alone doesn't, especially for trauma and long-standing patterns. Finding the right fit, both in therapist and method, makes all the difference.

Reaching out is the hardest part, and you've almost done it. Contact us to schedule a free consultation call, where we can talk about what you're looking for and answer any questions. From there, we'll schedule your first session at a time that works for you.
“I never knew how helpful therapy could be until now! I look forward to every session.”
